Did you Know! - 01/02/2012
By - GGL Pet Supplies
Did You Know (Chewing Gum)
As a dog walker there is nothing more annoying than people who spit chewing gum out onto the pavement, I spend a lot of time on my walks fishing chewing gum out of puppies and other dogs mouths. Chewing gum contains a substance call Xylitol which is highly toxic and lethal to dogs, its not a joke, google it! Chewing Gum can also become lodged in your dogs throat and cause choking or even block up the intestines which could also kill them. Chewing gum is a real threat to dogs and you must do everything you can to keep chewing gum away from your dog as it is a serious risk their life.
Did You Know (Dog Fouling)
Places where you have to clean up:
Public places e.g.
Places where you do not have to clean up
Registered blind people in charge of a dog do not need to clean up (but any other person exercising a guide dog must clean up).
Fines
It is an offence to fail to remove dog faeces deposited by a dog under your control.
If you are issued with a fixed penalty notice for dog fouling, you have 14 days to pay the £80 penalty.
If no payment is received (or you disagree with the notice) you will be issued a summons (so you will have to appear atMagistrates Court).
If found guilty, you could be fined up to £1,000 for each offence.

5 Communication skills you need if you want to get ahead - 30/01/2012
By - Mistry Marketing & Events
Continuing on from 2 week we have covered: 5 key planning skills, 5 creativity skills, here are 5 key communication skills you need to consider to get ahead:
Communication
1. Written - Most people in business spend a lot of time communicating in writing. You will spend a good few hours a day fighting your inbox. Add to this reports, proposals etc it's certain you will need to sharpen your word power to succeed.
2. Social Networking - We are not all comfortable socialising, some of us struggle to make small talk. It is a key skill to learn though, it is true what they say, and sometimes it is about who you know than what you know!
3. Speaking - Public speaking ranks high amongst the worlds most popular fears. You must overcome it and the best way is to practice. It might feel more comfortable working from the safety of your desk but at some point you are going to have to present. Better to have some experience under your belt before being forced to perform unprepared when it really counts.
4. Sales - You might think you do not need to sell but we all have to sell every day. In normal life we sell, persuading your partner of family that you really need that new purchase, getting out of that parking ticket ... persuasion skills can come in very handy indeed.
5. Negotiation - If you can't sell perhaps you can negotiate. A lot of the skills are the same but you will find people who have been in business for a while can drive a hard bargain. If you do not have the skills you will lose out each and every time.
I will be back with more tips next week on Productivity.

Sweet 16 and a makeover for marketing company - 26/01/2012
By - Fig Creative
2012 marks 16 successful years for local marketing company First Impression, who are celebrating their coming of age with an exciting new look and the launch of their Marketing Partner Programme. Piloted with a handful of clients, the newly formed Fig Creative’s innovative partnership-based approach has already reaped serious rewards with one client experiencing a tenfold increase in income in under 12 months.
So what’s the secret? Fig Creative works in partnership with their clients, agreeing marketing objectives and spend over an annual period but spreading that cost on a monthly basis. In effect they become your retained virtual marketing department delivering agreed activities on time and to budget, ensuring they have maximum impact on your bottom line.
In challenging trading conditions the benefits of the programme outweight the investment involved: it allows easy and accurate management of marketing spend, provides access to a team of marketing professionals with broad experience across a range of disciplines, gives focus and momentum to marketing activity and delivers tangible financial results.
In celebration Fig Creative invite local businesses from around the region to an open day 17th January 11 – 3pm to find out more about the Marketing Partners Programme and how it could move their business forward in 2012. Customers of Fig Creative are having drinks and canapes from 4 – 6pm on the same day to celebrate.
Helen Dunca, MD of the newly branded Fig Creative explains, “We work with many local companies, providing design, print and web services and we will continue to offer great quality for great value. But we know that no one marketing activity will transform a business, particularly in a challenging economic climate. Our new Marketing Partner Programme blends a variety of targeted marketing activities to give local companies the support they need to grow their businesses – without breakign the bank. And it really works, come and see our customer videos at our open day.”
The friendly Fig Creative team is now 7 strong and offers a full range of marketing services, including branding consultancy, PR, design and print, copy writing and internet and social media strategy.

5 Creativity skills you need if you want to get ahead - 23/01/2012
By - Mistry Marketing & Events
Continuing on from last week 5 key planning skills, here are 5 creativity skills you need to consider to get ahead:
Creativity
1. Imagination - Many people neglect their creative side feeling that it is better to be all about the logic, but in fact some of the most successful business people are also the most imaginative.
2. Inventiveness - If you can imagine it you can create it, and if you create it then you can sell it! Look around you, think of the things you buy and use, someone had to have the idea before it was built and sold to you. You might be surprised how few mad inventors there are, more products are invented in a office than a garage.
3. Problem Solving - A big part of surviving in business is about solving problems fast and effectively. An employee who is good at keeping their head in a crisis while fighting fires is a worthwhile asset to any business.
4. Brainstorming - Some people think brainstorming is all about having stupid ideas while ridiculing the contributions of everyone else while drinking coffee and eating biscuits or cakes. Perhaps this is why brainstorms get a bad name? If you can brainstorm great ideas, fast then you will be one step ahead.
5. Making connections - Some of the best ideas have simply been about connecting two otherwise unconnected ideas together. Could you invent the next iPhone App?
I will be back with more tips next week on Communication.

5 planning skills you need if you want to get ahead - 16/01/2012
By - Mistry Marketing & Events
The greatest people in business have certain attributes in common. Several personal qualities are important, like a thirst for continuous education, personal drive and motivation, strong goals and ambition, clear vision, and always a great deal of passion.
Beyond those personal qualities though, what makes a successful business person stand out from the crowd? Here are 5 planning skills you need if you want to get ahead:
Planning
1. Strategic - A business that lurches from one crisis to another is not going to stay around very long. Obviously if you are in charge then you have to set your goals or objectives. Can you clearly see the road ahead?
2. Project - Project management makes your life and that of your team less stressful and gets things done on time and on budget. It might not be the white knuckle ride that some enjoy but at least you will be able to clock off at a reasonable hour!
3. Financial - The top reason why businesses go out of business is bad financial planning. All the cash flows in the wrong direction and in the wrong hands. Someone needs a firm grip on the numbers and it had better be you otherwise someone might just take a trip at your expense.
4. Risk - I'm a natural worrier which though it annoys my family, does have the advantage in business that I tend to see the potential potholes in any plan. If you can imagine a risk you can set about to mitigate it.
5. Logistics - Money is just one resource you need. Any business has inputs and outputs. You need to have the right people in the right jobs with what they need when they need it to get their work done. Logistics could make you a hero in your office.
I will be back with more tips next week on Creativity

Call for collaboration - 12/01/2012
By - Warp Asylum
Big news! We're starting a new project this year but we need your help! We want to collaborate with a company who perhaps aren't having such a good software experience when it comes to running their business. Perhaps you're using an off-the-shelf package but it doesn't quite do what you want. Or perhaps you have custom software already but it's getting old and creaking a bit. Maybe you have great software but it's desktop based and not online. Maybe you've just started in business and no software seems to exist to do what you need. We want you! We want you because we want to fix your software woes. We want to create a modern, scalable, efficient, cloud-based piece of software for you to run your business. We are willing to do this for free (yes, really!) but we need your input. There can only be one "winner" so please get in touch with us for more information! News From the Business Family
Hyde Town Centre Development - Works to Hyde Outdoor Market - 02/02/2012
Hyde Town Centre Development - Works to Hyde Outdoor Market
The purpose of this news release is to inform you that the council will be commencing works as part of the redevelopment of Hyde Outdoor Market commencing Monday 30th January 2012.
The works involve the creation of a new Civic Area, new realigned market stalls, the repaving of the market ground, new street lighting and the installation of new high quality street furniture.
The works are to be undertaken in two phases, which will allow the outdoor market to continue to operate. The first phase will see the demolition of half of the current market stalls towards the Clarendon Street side of the market. New sandstone and granite paving will be laid and the first of the new market stalls constructed. Once this phase is complete the outdoor market will relocate to the new stalls and the remaining timber stalls demolished prior to the completion of the paving.
The completion date for the scheme is anticipated to be Summer 2012.
The works will be undertaken mostly during normal working hours although some early morning/evening and weekend working may be required, particularly outside shop entrances.
Every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience during construction. However, some disruption will no doubt be inevitable and to this end your co-operation would be very much appreciated. Access to premises will be maintained.
If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact Andrew Vincent, on 0161 342 3965 or the supervisor for the works Peter Spencer, on 0161 342 4142.
Supply of Bicycles, Storage and Logistics Services! - 02/02/2012
Transport for Greater Manchester will shortly be launching a pool bike scheme which will provide bikes as a shared resource and for short term loan. They will be seeking suppliers to fulfil the following two contracts:
1. The supply of 22 bicycles (15 male and 7 female) and equipment (including helmets, mudguards, panniers, locks and lights) for use on the scheme.
2. Secure storage, maintenance and distribution (when directed) of cycles across Greater Manchester including an annual service and ensuring bikes are distributed and returned in a roadworthy condition. Distribution to be costed on a per delivery basis.
Transport for Greater Manchester will shortly be inviting potential suppliers to tender with a view to awarding the contracts in March. In order to meet this they will require completed tenders to be returned by late February / early March.
They would like to ensure that any interested parties have the most time possible to consider their proposition so we are issuing advanced notice of the Invitation to Tender (ITT). Please note that only tenders submitted through the ProContract website (link below) will be accepted.
In order to apply for this tender you need to be registered (for free) on the ProContract website https://www.thechest.nwce.gov.uk/procontract/supplier.nsf (see link on right hand side of this website to register). You then need to sign up to receive transport contract updates. When the final ITT is published on the site you will be notified. If you are already registered you should receive notification automatically.
This project is being funded as part of the Greater Manchester Commuter Cycling Project. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), on behalf of Greater Manchester partners, submitted a Key Component bid and was awarded £4.9m from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). For more information about the LSTF Commuter Cycling Project please follow this link: http://www.tfgm.com/ltp3/documents/KeyComponentApplication-Form-v1-0-DfT-Final.pdf .

Hyde Town Centre Redevelopment Plans - 09/12/2011
Hyde Town Centre Redevelopment Plans
Hyde is to get a new market and civic square as part of a £1.2 million project to improve the town centre and attract more traders and shoppers.
A well-attended public consultation meeting took place in July. Opinions were given by businesses, traders and residents, and Tameside Council has taken these on board as it finalises the scheme.
Key elements of the proposed scheme include the use of high quality materials, removal of street clutter, changing the lay-out of the stalls to improve access to Clarendon Square Shopping Square and the creation of a civic space.
The plans are now on public display in a variety of community venues including the outdoor and indoor markets, Clarendon Shopping Centre, Hyde Town Hall and Hyde Library.
Plans of the new development can be found below:
- Hyde Outdoor Market Redevelopment 1.05 MB
- Hyde Outdoor Market Redevelopment - Works Phasing 319.64 KB
Pending planning approval, works are due to start early next year and be completed by September. The works will be done in phases so that the market remains open throughout as will the indoor market, located within the Clarendon Shopping Centre.
In addition to the physical improvements, the Council is committed to supporting existing businesses in Hyde and to attracting new ones.
Hyde Business Forum has been relaunched as an arena in which to share views and ideas about how new life can be injected into the town. For more information, contact Andrea Puttnam on 0161 342 3980.
