By - Banter Media

It's exciting times in the studio for all of us here at Banter. We have submitted a project for a bursary to the Umbro Industries scheme and it's currently enjoying first place as most popular submission on the site.

As you can imagine we're well chuffed but we're still a long way off clinching the bursary.

You can find our submission at www.umbroindustries.com/ideas/view/Streets-Above

We'd love it if you could find the time to have a look and vote. As always we appreciate the support.

Much love

Birthday Bubblebath! - 25/07/2010
By - Plums and Roses Cakes and Cookies

Hi again and thanks for visiting my miniblog!

Well the 'Lady in the Bubblebath' cake was a real hit with the birthday girl and all her family and friends. To see pics either go to my website;

www.plumsandrosescakes.co.uk

or search for Plums and Roses on Facebook.

I have also been experimenting with the world's favourite mini treat - the CUPCAKE!

It is the perfect cake for celebrating Birthdays, Baby showers, Christenings or even as a beautiful alternative to the classic Wedding Cake.

They are super convenient as they come ready to eat in single servings and can be made in a variety of flavours to suit even the pickiest cake lover. They can also be individually boxed up for a beautiful and delicious Wedding Favour!

If you are still keen to have a classic 'cutting of the cake'picture, we can provide a 'cutting cake' which will make up the top tier of the cupcake tower and will be designed to the same exacting specifications as the cupcakes.

If you have a special occasion coming up that you need a sweet centrepiece for, Plums and Roses would love to hear for you.

take care,

Susan.

Have you Claimed your Google Local Listing? - 23/07/2010
By - Kay Dinsdale - SEO Consultant

Most businesses have a Google Local listing whether you have added it yourself or Google pulled your details from another business directory resource.

When your business comes up in local search, if you have added your website address to your own listing, the user could click the link and be taken direct to your website. But that is all changing.

Local searches are now starting to show us Place Page results. These don't link direct to your website, they link to your page on Google. As such it's now more important to claim your listing and edit your information.

The last time I posted the Sun was cracking the flags, well I've just come in from painting a 'plimsole' line on our van. To make it worse the hosepipe ban is still in force, crackers.

When the Sun does come out again and it will, get out in the garden and make the most of it. To keep the nasties away we have a range of Citronella Candles and T Lights. we also carry Citronella Incense.

Not only practical but lit candles look stunning in the garden when the sun goes down. Oil Burners are a good alternative to candles and we have a large selection of ceramic and glass burners accompanied by a vast array of oils from budget fragrance oils to top class essential oils, all at unbeatable prices.

Here we go again, I can here that tell tale pitter patter on the window --

The first impression - 19/07/2010
By - Mr G\'s BARBERSHOP

today a man called into my shop with the intention of selling me a service that may well have been to my advantage

( the brand shall remain un named so as not to cast a negative shadow on what is after all a British business and lets face no one needs bad publicity)

to cut a long story short the young chap came through the door keen as mustard with a bright smile and an almost cocky attitude open necked shirt and tie loosened telling me that I could not do without his product, all the time he was pitching to me I could not take my eyes or for that matter my attention from his fine pencil thin goatee beard and moustache, as a barber I admit without excuse my unconscious habit of noting the balance, and accuracy of any haircut that comes within ten yards of me, (its pure anorak)

his lined moustache and beard was out of symmetry giving him an almost twisted facial expression with every word he uttered, I could bare it no longer and had to offer my advice in shaving close and tight pencil moustaches and the correct razor for the job, he told me with great pride that he always uses a mach what ever the number of blades they are squeezing into the clumpy head these day's thus was of course his first mistake, his second was in my humble opinion in thinking that his disheveled appearance would not niggle away at his confidence and his resolve when entering into what was after all whether it was appointed or not a business meeting, and no less important that if it were a multimillion pound contract,

he did not instill confidence in me that his product would fair any better than he did, so off he went to try again else where,

to be well groomed, smartly turned out with polished shoes is an easily over looked detail that instills in your client that you are in control of your self and therefore in control of the business you bring to the table, perhaps an old fashioned view point but I believe still relevant in today's business world,

make the most of what nature has provided us with, a neat and tidy appearance commands respect from all men,

Creative Cakes - 19/07/2010
By - Plums and Roses Cakes and Cookies

Hi and thanks for visiting my miniblog!

I'm really excited about the cakes I have been making lately. It seems that my clients love to keep me creative by requesting cakes that make me think outside the box.

From the recent 40th Wedding Anniversary Cake in the shape of their first house as a married couple to the Chanel No 5 Bottle Cake and even the Tiffany & Co Box Cake, I have enjoyed every minute of planning baking and decorating these cakes. My favourite part, however, is the look on the client's face when they see the finished product.

The latest in this long line of creative celebration cakes is 'Lady in a BubbleBath', a birthday cake (and subliminal message) for a very busy lady.

I will be posting pictures on my website soon so please check it out!

www.plumsandrosescakes.co.uk

If you have a special occasion coming up and would like to discuss your ideas for a spectacular cake I would love to hear from you!

Take care,

Susan.

Are you a business that has been affected by the ash cloud? - 15/07/2010
By - Andrea Wren Journalist & Copywriting Services

I'm writing a feature for North West Business Insider on how North West businesses have been affected by the ash cloud crisis and am urgently needing to speak to local businesses willing to provide comment for the feature.

I'm looking particularly for businesses who trade in Northern Europe, the Baltics, Iceland or Scandinavia, or businesses who are able to discuss how the ash cloud situation has affected their operations - negatively or even positively.

The feature will be an opportunity to explore areas of strength, but also assess the impact of volcanic ash eruptions on business activity across the Northern European continent. I especially want to address how trade has been affected by nature and how businesses are overcoming the challenge of reduced air travel.

My deadline is imminent so would like to speak to businesses as soon as possible.

Tracking Campaigns in Google Analytics - 13/07/2010
By - BSA Marketing

If you are using Google Analytics to track tour Marketing Activity (and if you are not, you should be!). Then you may find this tool useful.

Analytics tracking link creator

The tool will allow you to create links that can be specifically tracked as campaigns in Goggle Analytics. For example, if you are running an email campaign, and you want to track how much site traffic the email generates, simple create a link to the landing page using this tool, and insert this into the email as the link to your site.

You will then be able to track the visitors generated by the email campaign under the “campaigns” section of Google Analytics.

Some email marketing systems (ours included) will generate these links automatically. However if the system you use does not, or you would like to track non email campaigns. this is a very useful tool.

UK postcode data *partially* freed - 12/07/2010
By - Warp Asylum

I tweeted rather excitedly at the start of the year about how the UK postcode data will eventually be made free. The good news is that the postcode geocoding data ("which postcode is where on the map?") has indeed been made free and is available at the Ordnance Survey's OpenData website.

Unfortunately, the postcode address file (or PAF) - giving a list of address choices for each postcode - remains under the, ahem, charge of Royal Mail. This is, I believe, what most developers and webmasters were really waiting for. It is not fantastically cheap. You know the deal, you have to enter your address in a website form but all you have to do is enter your postcode, choose your address and job done! This is the PAF in action.

Humbug!

PS. The Ordnance Survey's OpenData website has a whole heap of freely available data and is well worth a look.

News From the Business Family

A word from the webmasters - 22/07/2010

In April a company was working its way through the member’s directory and phoning everyone, unsurprisingly we had complaints and an alert was posted:

Beware of Cold Calling Online Marketing Companies.

http://www.tamesidebusinessfamily.com/directory_details.php?c_id=799

We’ve since had one or two instances of people using the directory for explicit email marketing, which has again raised some concerns.

The directory is there to help members develop business – but it isn’t intended to be a spamming aid for sending sales messages to everyone.

If you are a Tameside Business Family Member, your News/Blog Page allows you to post sales messages.

The contact facility on Member’s Directory pages isn’t intended for people to copy/paste the same message.  This is causing a spam-like offence to some Members, so please don’t do it.

We have introduced some mechanisms to limit this behaviour – and the final solution is that folk who persist will find themselves unable to send anything.

Collaboration is great, and it’s really good to see how much people are using the site – but we do need to educate the tiny minority who risk upsetting the vast majority.

Common sense should really tell you the intended purpose of the site, so please – appreciate it, but don’t make unreasonable use.

If you want to check out tools for professional email marketing have a look at http://www.tamesidebusinessfamily.com/directory_details.php?c_id=50

We are aiming to run some Autumn events around this topic for Tameside Businesses.

Education Becoming More Enterprising - 22/07/2010
